1 | ![]() Dedicated to furthering the interest and appreciation of folk music through education, research, and participation; familiarizing the people of southeastern Pennsylvania with authentic folk art; and providing a meeting place for those with a common interest in folk music. DATES TO REMEMBER:
Ed & Rosemary Kostansek of the band Bent Harpoon have moved to Asheville, NC. We’ll miss their many inventive and humorous performances. They write: “We certainly will miss all our friends in BCFSS for these many years. Plan road trips!” Their new address is in the members’ directory. Ed says we’re welcome to visit if we don’t all arrive at the same time! Curt Stauffer, a long-time member who graced us with his affable cheer and with countless folk songs and swing-era numbers on ukulele, guitar and bass, passed away in early October as the result of a fall from a ladder. He was 89 years young. We extend our condolences to Curt’s family and friends. We're pleased to announce a new event on our performing schedule. After a 10-year absence (more or less), BCFSS returned to Tyler Park for the Crafts in the Meadow juried craft show, sponsored by the Earth Center for the Arts. We slogged through a damp and dreary Saturday but enjoyed a beautiful day on Sunday. We hope this will become a regular event. See Tyler Park Craft Fest for details We're sorry to report that our vice-president, Richard Hunt, has found it necessary to relocate to West Virginia to accept a new employment opportunity. We thank him his support of BCFSS and all the delightful music he has shared. He will be missed by all. Thanks also to John Fox for stepping in as our new vice-president. Our Members Website is now available at this location: http://members.bucksfolk.org/. This is a private website requiring a userid and password. All current members having email addresses should already have received their personal userid and password. If you did not, please contact Wes at membersite@bucksfolk.org. At the members website, you can review the members directory, listen to previous BCFSS concerts, review past issues of the Buckhorn, and view the official BCFSS constitution. Many thanks to Wes Powers for developing this useful and interesting membership perk. Our Folk Community News page has proven too labor-intensive to keep up to date. However, it still provides details on our anonymous mailing list. Anything that would have made the Folk Community News page will be forwarded directly to your email box if you sign up. News items relating to BCFSS are listed right here (you're reading one right now). Contributions continue to be received for housing and maintaining the Tor Jonassen memorial record collection which has been donated to the Sing Out! organization in Bethlehem, PA. To donate contact the BCFSS treasurer or Sing Out!. |
